Bob Smith sends -

Last December, Gordon and I went to a AC/DC concert. It was such a fun night to be out with a good friend and to see a group that we both grew up with. That night has gone down in history of one of the best evenings I've ever had. Thanks Gordy - Good Times!!

Audree's Daughter has sent a note

Dear Family and Friends, If you haven't heard, my awesome Uncle Doogie has had a swimming pool accident and cracked his head and neck. It is hard for our family to get over this while he is in the hospital. We hope you will pray for him. We are HEARTBROKEN!

Love, Kaitlyn

I love you Josh. You are a really great son. I am so proud of you. I love to tell all my first officers about you. Keep up the good work in school so you can get good grades and then a good education in college. It will pay off down the road in BIG money.I love you and look forward to many years of fun and sun with you.

Today's update

Thank you to the many people who have been fasting in Doogie's behalf today. Our family has felt the love and comfort that all of you are praying for. We are unable to convey the words of gratitude we have for all of you. Thank you and please continue to pray and keep Doogie in your thoughts.

Not much news to report today. They have increased his medication today, to help him rest. His breathing is very labored today, so they have increase the ventilator to give him rest. This is all to be expected. He is fighting the battle and as we all know... Many good days and many not as good days will find us. He is so strong and healthy. We have great faith.

I will be putting more pictures on and we would like to post pictures of him with friends and co-workers if you would like to send them in to the email listed yesterday. We appreciate all of you and this blog is for all of us. To help us laugh, help us cry, and to lift our spirits. We love you all, and again can't thank you enough for the tremendous outpouring of love, support and kindness shown to our family.

We want to thank the Minna Family. They have given us great hope, and we will be sharing more about this soon. I have to get all the information straight, but what we have been told by them matches what our initial reaction to the doctors telling us "He is paralyzed...." Well that is true today, we'll see about that in the future..... but all of us that know Doog know, JUST TELL HIM HE CAN'T DO SOMETHING..... HE WILL SHOW YOU, YES HE CAN AND WILL!!!!

Saturday, May 30th

This morning we have seen great things. Doogie has started to initiate his own breathing capabilities....meaning he is still on a ventilator, but is taking frequent breathes consistently. His medical team is VERY encouraged at this great stride so early on. Of course, this is a baby step in the long journey. We have no doubt that he will continue to amaze us daily like he has always done.

We have had many of Doogie's friends here at the Hospital including Dave, Jeff, Cody, Zach, Rick, and Steve, Chris Brown and Roy Glassey of Skywest Airlines. We would like to thank all of you for your kindness and compassion. It has lifted our spirits to be able to laugh and hear the stories of how you all have come to know Doogie. We would love to include any stories that you may have about Doogie in the Blog and ask that you email them to hhyde3@gmail.com so I can get them on. Through stories of laughter and fun, may we all heal!!

I personally would like to acknowlegde Chris, Roy, Kari, Rexenne, and all other employees of Skywest that have bent over backwards to help in everyway in this situation. Thank you to Mike M. who has posted contact information on CHAPA. (I apologize if any info is not correct, and ask that you look beyond my mistakes) Thank you to all the pilots that have called and text messages to our family, I want to thank all of you personally and acknowledge your names, unfortunately there have been hundreds of texts, and phone calls and we are unable to list all of you at this time. We are in awe of the great love and blessings that has been bestowed upon our family.

We acknowlegde all the people that were and are continuing to care for him, including the night of his accident. Many people were instrumental in the effort to get him assistance immediately and we thank you for your life saving efforts. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

All comments that you post here we will relay to him. Thanks again!! We appreciate the prayers, love and support. Please continue to pray and keep him in your thoughts.

Thank you to the Smith Family for the cute fish cup and balloons.

Doogie

We have decided to set up a blog to help get information out to all those who are praying and concerned for Gordon. First, I would like to take a minute and clarify something that may be confusing to anyone but his family. Gordon L. Hyde II may be his legal name, but to his family we have called him Doogie or Doog for nearly twenty years. YES... as in the show DOOGIE HOWSER! When he was in high school and a mere 13 inches shorter than he is currently, he was told by many older ladies that shopped at the Market where he worked, that he reminded them of that kid on the show. Everyday since, that nickname has stuck.

As many of you are aware, or are coming to find out, Doog is in a Chicago Hospital. At this time he is currently on a ventilator and is paralyzed after having a serious spinal cord injury. We are unable to know for sure how this has happened and pray that when he is able to have vocal capabilities, will be able to clarify this for us. There have been many stories that have been told second, third hand and so for that reason, we as a family want to wait to hear from him how this horrible accident has come about.

He has had one surgery to stabilize and fuse C3-C7 in his neck. Doctors anticipate that he will have another surgery on Tuesday to stabilize the front of his neck. Doog has been able to move his head back and forth from side to side as well as up and down in response to questions we have asked. Although, he is still heavily medicated with pain medication and at times with sedation medication. We feel very blessed!

He is in the Surgical ICU at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, 1775 Dempster St., Park Ridge Illinois 60068 847-723-2210. He has had many visitors and we as a family would like to welcome all friends and co-workers to visit. We want to thank everyone for all of the kindness and love shown to our family at this difficult time. Please continue to pray and keep him in your thoughts.
